SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP! - MALL OF AMERICA(EVENT
CANCELLED) |
10:00AM -
5:00 PM |
|
|
|
Spend the day at the Mall
of America. The Mall of America is the
largest fully-enclosed mall in the nation hosting more
visitors annually than Disney World and the Grand Canyon
combined. Designed as a city within a city, the nation’s
premier shopping and entertainment destination has over. The Mall of America consists of
four “avenues” placed in a square around the
centerpiece, an indoor theme park. Each of the avenues
provides a distinctive shopping experience. Thee four anchor stores
are: Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s,
Nordstrom’s and Sears. There are restaurants, bistros
and cafes galore, with food to suit every palate and
budget. There are over 500 retail outlets,
including many of the most prestigious stores in the
world and some of the most unique specialty shops. In
one afternoon you can ride on a roller coaster (indoor
theme park), explore the bottom of the ocean (UnderWater
Adventures), drive 200 mph without getting a speeding
ticket (NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway), visit dinosaur
fossils (Dinosaur Walk Museum) get married (Chapel of
Love) and still have time to shop. NOTE: There is
a great deal of walking with this tour! This is a child
friendly tour. |

ARTS IN THE
CITY
(EVENT CANCELLED) |
9:00AM -
1:00 PM |
|
|
|
Our first stop, The brand new, Guthrie
Theater, which re-opened in the summer of 2006 on the
beautiful Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis. On
par with the world’s great performing arts centers, the
new Guthrie houses three stages – a thrust stage for
large scale and epic classical plays, a proscenium stage
for intimate and contemporary plays and international
productions and a flexible theater for new work and
artist development. Our tour includes a “behind the
scenes” backstage tour with a peek at a prop display,
dressing room, costume shop and rehearsal shop.
Following the theater tour, we’ll visit the Walker Art
Center and Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. A highly
acclaimed resource for contemporary art, the Walker Art
Center conducts an extensive program of exhibitions and permanent collection features work by American and
International artists. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
serves as the largest urban sculpture garden in the
nation. These eleven acres of garden feature over 40
sculptures on permanent view highlighted by the Spoonbridge and
Cherry. NOTE: Wear comfortable shoes! |

ST.
PAUL'S NOTORIOUS PAST
(EVENT CANCELLED) |
10:00AM -
1:00 PM |
|
|
|
Baby Face Nelson,
Machine Gun Kelly, Creepy Karpis and Ma Barker are
familiar names in America during Prohibition. St. Paul
was a favorite hang-out for these criminals and more.
It was said, If you were looking for a criminal, either
look in jail or in the city of St. Paul. St. Paul was
more than a quiet, picturesque river town and today our
guide will show you the other side of St. Paul. Stops
will be made along the route at the Landmark Center and
Wabasha Street Caves. We will drive by the location
where one local gangster blew up a rival, where
Dillinger had a shoot-out with St. Paul Police and visit
the former most-exclusive Speak Easy in the area! The
Landmark Center was once the site of famous gangster
trials (J. Edgar Hoover personally escorted public enemy
#1, Al Karpis, through the doors for his trial), the
restored federal courts building still commands
respect. St. Paul served as a cooling-off area for
gangsters, and you’ll even see a “Gangster Gallery” to
show off some of the Caves’ more notorious past
visitors. |

MINNESOTA
ORCHESTRA |
8:00PM |
|
|
|
The beloved force-of-nature
conductor laureate, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, celebrates
his 85th birthday with a concert showcasing one of the
most beautiful pieces ever written for piano, as well as
a remarkable young talent, Ewa Kupiec. Ewa's elegant,
virtuosic style has wowed critics and audiences in
Europe, and we're thrilled to present her Orchestra Hall
debut. The concert closes with a sonic journey to deep
space, fired by Strauss' beautiful Also sprach
Zarathustra, music featured in the classic film 2001: A
Space Odyssey. |
