Hillwood Tour and Royal Tea
1:00pm – 5:00pm
Hillwood
was Marjorie Merriweather
Post's elaborate twenty-five acre
estate and gardens. The estate has
been closed for a number of years

her father that Mrs.
Post inherited the Postum Cereal
Company, which she later expanded
into the General Foods Corporation.
Currently, Hillwood contains one of
the most significant collections of
Russian decorative arts outside the
Russian Federation, in addition to
eighteenth century French furniture,
tapestries and
objects d'art. You
will tour Hillwood accompanied by an
expert on the collection.
The magnificent grounds include a
Japanese garden complete with a foot
bridge and a stream; a French garden
paved with stone and a tiny canal; a
Russian "dacha" or cottage; a lodge
housing a beautiful display of Mrs.
Post's vast collection of American
Indian artifacts; the C. W. Post
Wing, filled with turn of the
century American art and furniture,

SATURDAY, APRIL 26
Old Town Alexandria
9:00am – 2:00pm
Old Town Alexandria is a quaint historic town just on the other
side of the Potomac River from
Washington, DC, and is the historic
city home to
George Washington, Robert E. Lee, and the founding fathers of
our country.
Dating
back to 1749, Alexandria’s
riverfront was an important port during the colonial,
revolutionary, and Civil War
periods.
Step back in
time to the days of George
Washington at Gadsby's Tavern, a
historic tavern visited by the first
five Presidents, as well as George
Mason, Ben Franklin, Francis Scott
Key, Henry Clay, and other familiar
historical figures, when Alexandria
was at the crossroads of Colonial
America. Then proceed to Christ
Church, a
sturdy redbrick Georgian-style
church that has been in continuous
use since 1773. It would be an important
national landmark even if its two
most distinguished members were not
George Washington and Robert E. Lee.
You can take a walk through the
weathered graveyard, Alexandria's
first and only burial ground until
1805.
After your historical walk, you will
be lead to
The
Torpedo Factory,
a
spectacular art gallery that was an actual
arsenal in World Wars I and II,
and now houses 150 artists' studios,
galleries, and more. You can stop in
one of the many shops and galleries
along King Street or have a bite to
eat in one cafes or restaurants.
Registration: Tickets available at
the Registration Desk!
